Good news for iPhone jailbreak fans because your iOS 6 device can be jailborken using famous Redsn0w jailbreak tool. It works on both Windows and Mac.
Itâ€™s less than 24 hours since Apple released its latest and greatest mobile operating system, iOS 6 but iPhone Dev-Team has already found the way to jailbreak it using famous Redsn0w jailbreak tool. Itâ€™s not a big surprise since iPhone Dev-Tem did found a way to jailbreak all beta versions of iOS 6.
Apple has inspired a lot of Cydia and now we have various tweaks and offerings available on iOS 6 by default. Still most hardcore iPhone and iPad users will want to jailbreak their iDevices to remove limitation set by Apple to avoid customizations.
In this brief tutorial I will explain how to jailbreak iPhone 4 running iOS 6 but before we get started here are things you should do and know:
- This jailbreak will work only on A4 based iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and iPod touch 4th-gen. If your device is not on the least please donâ€™t try to jailbreak it. It wonâ€™t work and you risk bricking your device.
- Make sure you have synced your device with iTunes and your data are safe
- This is tethered jailbreak which means that you will have to boot into tethered-mode every time you reboot your device. Currently there is no untethered jailbreak for iOS 6.
- If you rely on unlock, do not update to iOS 6 because no unlock tools are updated to support this iOS version.
How to Jailbreak iOS 6:
Step 1: Download iOS 6 firmware file for your iPhone (iClarified) and make sure you have iOS 6 installed on your device before you proceed with the next step.
Step 2: Download the latest version of Redsn0w (currently Redns0w 0.9.13dev4) for Mac or Windows.
Step 3: Extract the content of the downloaded archive file ad save it to a place where you will be able to find it.
Step 4: Now run the executable Redsn0w file.
For Windows users make sure you run it in administrator mode (Right click on the app and then hit â€śRun as Administratorâ€?).
For Mac users on OS X Mountain Lion start Redsn0w by Ctrl+Click on the app and the selecting Open from the menu. It will allow to bypass Gatekeeper security introduced on OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion. If you are using OS X 10.7 Lion or older you can open Redsn0w just like any other app.
Step 5: Once you have Redsn0w opened, select Extras option from its interface and point it to the IPSW file you downloaded on Step 1.
Step 6: Now follow onscreen instruction, if any, since it depends on each iOS device and Redn0w is developed to require less input from the user as possible.
How to boot tethered on iOS 6 after this jailbreak:
As we mentioned earlier, this is tethered jailbreak which means that you will have to boot into tethered-mode every time you reboot your device. To boot your iOS 6 device you will have to use Redsn0w:
Step 1: Attach your iOS device to computer via USB and start Redsn0w on your computer.
Step 2: Click on the Extras button inside Redsn0w and the simply click on â€śJust Bootâ€? and follow the on-screen instructions.
Once done, your device will reboot back into jailbroken state. This should be done each time you restart your iPhone 4.
How to install Cydia on iPhone 4 running iOS 6:
The current version of Redsn0w doesnâ€™t install Cydia by default so you have to install it manually using Terminal on Mac or SSH on Windows.
For Windows users, you can download apps such as WinSCP or others SSH apps.
Step 1: Write down the current IP address of your iOS device.
Step 2: Make sure your device is connected to your Mac or PC. Now open Terminal for Mac or WinSCP for Windows and execute the following command:
Step 3: You will be asked for root password. Use: alpine
Step 4: Now when you have root access to your device type the following command:
It will download and install Cydia on your iPhone. Your device will reboot and you will notice Cydia icon n the home screen which means that you have succeeded with iOS 6 jailbreak on your iPhone 4.
